I am new to working with electricity and such and i am grounded so i have a little free time on my hands and i was wondering if someone could give me a fairly detailed description on how how to make a tesla coil, preferably hand held but i don’t really care to much. I have google searched and yahoo searched but everything i get doesn’t really describe how to make it. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have seen people draw an arc from a tesla coil to their hand without feeling anything. How do they do this? I have read several different sides of the skin effect and I do not plan on doing this very much but i was just wondering how they do it.
I understand the concept of frequency so please explain the practice of doing it. Where does the ground need to be placed and do i need to be insulated from the ground etc.

I just got a mini-lecture from my high-school physics teacher about Tesla Coil and air-cored resonant transformer..but I just can’t understand what he says…I only understand the ordinary step-up or step-down transformer…

so, can anyone make it clear…what’s the difference between a tesla coil and an ordinary transformer?
NB:Do not use “extravagant” or “high-level” words…because my vocabulary is not that good, use “everyday” English if you can…
